As the book world remembers Truman Capote on what would have been his 100th birthday Sept. 30, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop remains an important steward of his legacy through a partnership with the Truman Capote Literary Trust.

Workshop Director Lan Samantha Chang will have a lot to celebrate next month. Chang, who also is a Writers’ Workshop alumna, is one of eight individuals who received an Arts and Letters Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters

Guggenheim Fellows this year include Assistant Professor of Fiction Jamel Brinkley, alumni Justin Torres and Robyn Schiff, and artist Lorraine O'Grady, who also attended the Writers' Workshop.
