V. V. Ganeshananthan (MFA '05) has won the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction for her novel, Brotherless Night (Random House Publishing Group, 2023).

The Carol Shields Prize for Fiction, inaugurated in 2023, is a literary prize "celebrating creativity and excellence in fiction by women and non-binary writers in Canada and the United States."
