Write at the Stanley: A Generative Writing Workshop is back for the Spring Semester!

Join us monthly to generate new creative writing inspired by works in the Stanley collection. Each session will be led by a different talented writer from our area, who will be offering a new prompt and a new approach to ekphrastic writing (writing inspired by visual art). Bring your own notebook and pencil or computer and leave with the beginning of a newly written piece.

Workshop Poetry Professor, Mark Levine, and Visiting Assistant Fiction Professor, Afabwaje Kurian will read in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of Dey House/ Glenn Schaeffer Library at 7 p.m.

Joel Worford released the album Thoughts for Breakfast under the artist name Whitney & The Saying Goes in 2021. Composed of nine songs written by himself, Thoughts for Breakfast combines soul, blues, alternative rock, jazz, americana, gospel and funk music. Joel has performed at numerous venues and restaurants around Richmond, Virginia, opened for the band American Authors at the Englert Theater in the fall of 2024, and has toured the east coast. The Washington Public Library will be holding its next Washington Writers Workshop on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 10 a.m.

Join us for a presentation on craft by our visiting fiction writer during the first hour. We will workshop submissions during the second hour.
