The Writers' Workshop presents a reading by Ida Beam Visiting Lecturer, Karen Russell.

Karen Russell is the author of five books of fiction, including the NYT bestsellers Swamplandia! and Vampires in the Lemon Grove. She is a MacArthur Fellow and a Guggenheim Fellow, and the two-time recipient of the National Magazine Award for Fiction, the Shirley Jackson Award, the 2023 Bottari Lattes Grinzane prize, the New Yorker's "20 under 40" award and the National Book Foundation's "5 under 35" award. Her work has been published in The New YorkerThe New York TimesHarper's, Zoetrope, Conjunctions, and The New York Review of Books, and frequently anthologized in The Pushcart Prize and The Best American Short Stories series. She was the librettist and co-lyricist for The Night Falls, one of The New York Times' Best Performances of 2023. Her new novel, The Antidote, is forthcoming from Knopf in the spring of 2025. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two kids.
