Workshop alumni Alexander Chee (MFA, 1994), Andrea Cohen (MFA, 1985), Stephen Kuusisto (MFA, 1980), Sandra Lim (MFA, 2004), and Tracie Morris (Professor, Poetry) are among 184 artists, writers, scholars and scientists awarded fellowships this year from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Cohen, Kuusisto, Lim and Morris are recognized in the field of poetry; and Chee in the field of General Nonfiction.

Appointed on the basis of prior achievement and exceptional promise, the successful candidates were chosen through a rigorous peer-review process from almost 3,000 applicants in the Foundation’s ninety-seventh competition. In all, forty-nine scholarly disciplines and artistic fields, 73 different academic institutions, 28 states and the District of Columbia, and 2 Canadian provinces are represented in this year’s class of Fellows.
