Congratulations on your admission to the summer program! We're excited to work with you. A quick explanation of how our workshops work:

We are a graduate program at the University of Iowa, so all our classes are for credit. To enroll in a summer workshop, you will need to be admitted by the Graduate College (this is mostly pro-forma). Once you are admitted, you'll get a student ID, an advisor, and will register for the class. You will not earn a degree, but you will earn course credit to transfer if you ever decide to, say, get an MFA. Once you enroll, you'll be charged tuition ($2,001) as if you were a regular student.

Here are the steps:

  • Go to the Nondegree Graduate Student Admissions page and start the online application. If you're an international student, this will register you with the university for any necessary paperwork. If you've taken a class as a nondegree graduate student in the last calendar year, you might be able to skip this step.

You'll create an account, then select the following:

What type of credit are you seeking? Graduate or Professional Credit

To which Graduate or Professional College...? Graduate College

For which session..." Summer 2026

Purpose of attending: Other

Explain: Writers' Workshop

I plan to take courses: On-Campus

  • Request official transcripts from previous institutions (again, because we are a graduate program)
  • Wait to hear from your advisor
  • Register for classes!
  • Book travel and secure a place to stay (we'll send info about sublets and local B&Bs)

Housing Options

Classes will be held at 507 N Clinton Street.

Here are a couple bed and breakfasts we have used in the past.

AirBnB might have good options, or Furnished Finder.

We have also collected the details of graduate students who are looking to sublet their apartments (you may need to request access). The nice thing about these is that many will be near Dey House.

Tell us if you plan to attend:
