Peter Orner is the author of the novels, Love and Shame and Love and The Second Coming of Mavala Shikongo, and the story collections, Last Car Over the Sagamore Bridge and Esther Stories. A book of oral histories, edited by Orner, Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives, was published in 2008 by McSweeneys for the Voice of Witness Series. His work has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review, and Best American Stories. Orner has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, the Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Lannan Literary Fellowship.
