Ben Mauk will give a brief talk about pitching to magazines and building a freelance career, followed by a question and answer session, at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14 in the Frank Conroy Reading Room of the UI Glenn Schaeffer Library.

Ben Mauk is a Berlin-based writer. He has written for The New York Times Magazine, Harper's Magazine, and the London Review of Books, among many other publications. He was a finalist for the 2018 National Magazine Award for feature writing. He is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, a former Fulbright Fellow, and a grantee of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and New York University, where he is a visiting scholar. He directs the Berlin Writers' Workshop and is writing a book for FSG.
